Caravan holidays in Somerset

Somerset

Somerset takes holidays to a whole other level, and a caravan holiday here promises to offer something for everyone from couples, families, groups of friends and people travelling with their dogs. With captivating countryside, vibrant villages and towns, fascinating culture and heritage, fantastic food and amazing attractions, Somerset really does have it all.

Why Book A Caravan Holiday In Somerset

There is no shortage of towns and villages to visit in and around Somerset, so jump in the car and head out for a road trip with some incredible views along the way. Try Axbridge, an ancient town with a 400-year-old market square; the lively town of Dulverton, a great base to discover Exmoor National Park; Frome, a thriving market town; and Selworthy, a quaint village of thatched cottages.

The perfect destination for a day at the beach, Somerset boasts some fantastic beaches, including Brean, Burnham-on-Sea, Minehead, Weston-Super-Mare and Dunster, to name just a few. Imagine strolling hand in hand with that special someone while your beloved dog roams along golden sands, having a go at an adrenaline-fulled activity such as surfing, kayaking or paddle boarding with friends or packing a picnic and heading to the beach with the family and enjoying building sandcastles, looking for creatures in rock pools or having a paddle. It’s all here in Somerset.

Places To Visit During Somerset Caravan Holidays

If you fancy a day away from the beach, then Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park near Burnham-on-Sea is a great place to run around, get some fresh air, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There are 42 acres to explore with lakes, wildflower meadows and woodlands, which are home to some fascinating flora and fauna, making it a nature lover’s paradise.

This is a magnificent spot for an active dog walk while soaking up some incredible views and breathing in the fresh Somerset air. For the children, there are nature trails and play areas, with picnic areas aplenty for the whole family to enjoy a break and relax before heading off to continue their outdoor adventures.

Animal Farm Adventure Park near Berrow promises a fun-filled family outing. Get up close and personal with more than 250 animals, from everyday farm animals to more exotic creatures.

Everyone can get involved in animal grooming and reptile handling and learn more about the fascinating animal kingdom through a programme of educational talks throughout the day. The farm has llamas, alpacas, goats, sheep and lambs, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and chicks. Learn more about the park’s rescue programme and meet the gorgeous black fox family rescued by keepers at the park.

And to top it all off, there is a giant indoor play barn, an outdoor adventure play castle, trampolines and crazy golf, so there is plenty to make sure everyone is suitably tired out by the end of the day.

One of Somerset’s most enduring attractions is, of course, Cheddar Gorge, which is England’s largest gorge, measuring three miles in length and nearly 400 feet deep. Visitors are treated to the spectacle of dramatic underground caves, including two of the oldest show caves in England, Gough’s Cave and Cox’s Cave, as well as the Museum of Prehistory, where you can learn more about Cheddar’s history and ancestors and the infamous Cheddar Man, the oldest, full human skeleton to be found in England.

Climb down Jacob’s Ladder to the caves or go up to the Lookout Tower, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Mendips and beyond. For even more stunning scenery, take the three-mile cliff-top walk, which boasts some of the best views in Somerset, or try your hand at rock climbing or caving at the gorge’s international centre for caving and rock climbing. And even better, the attraction is very dog-friendly!

A Somerset caravan holiday delivers everything from beaches to countryside, castles to state-of-the-art attractions, meadows to mountains and towns to villages.
