    The historic town of Conwy really is the jewel in the crown of North Wales, and thanks to its impressive history, it’s no surprise that it has UNESCO World Heritage status.

    And while exploring the town’s long and fascinating heritage is a must, there is plenty more to Conwy than just history, with loads of contemporary attractions and activities sure to keep everyone happy.

    Something old…

    Conwy Castle & Walls

    The site of Conwy Castle & Walls is the only place to start when looking at the origins of this picture-perfect town. Built in the thirteenth century, Conwy Castle is one of the finest examples of a medieval castle you’ll find anywhere and the site has been exceptionally well-preserved.

    Climb to the top of any one of its towers and immerse yourself in the spectacular views over Conwy, the coastline, and beyond. Explore the walls with 21 architecturally impressive towers to count, which completely encase the town and help give insight into the town’s epic roots.

    Plas Mawr & Quay House

    To continue the history lesson, wander over to Plas Mawr in the heart of Conwy town center. This was the home of a wealthy merchant, Robert Wynn, and is arguably one of the best-surviving examples of an Elizabethan townhouse.

    You can see for yourself how the inside of an Elizabethan house was laid out and admire the authentic artefacts and furniture. Known as the smallest house in Great Britain, Quay House in Conwy dates back to the sixteenth century and measures just 10 feet by 6 feet.

    Allegedly, its last resident was a whopping 6 foot 3 inches! Well worth a ‘little’ look while on a visit to Conwy…

    Bodnant Garden

    150 years in the making is the National Trust site at Bodnant Garden, which boasts world-renowned gardens with plants collected from all over the world topped off with the most spectacular backdrop of the Snowdonia mountain range.

    As well as the Grade I listed gardens, there are also the formal meadows, arboretum, garden centre and children’s play area, all just waiting to be discovered.

    Aberconwy House

    Another fantastic place to visit is the National Trust’s Aberconwy House, the town’s only surviving medieval merchant’s house.

    The house’s history dates back to the fifteenth century and reflects the turbulent times of the walled town itself.

    There is also an on-site second-hand bookshop that is well worth a visit.

    Conwy Quay & Marina

    Bringing things bang up to date, the town is full of surprises and boasts a stylish and contemporary area located at Conwy Quay and Marina, where you can sit and watch life go by on the bustling marina or get involved in the bustling marine life of the area with boating, surfing, kitesurfing, and kayaking, all available on the marina.

    RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve

    Talking of incredible scenery, the Conwy area has so much nature and wildlife to share with its visitors that it can be hard to know where to begin. RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve is a great place to start.

    It boasts 114 acres of wetland that has been lovingly developed and preserved. Walk along the boardwalk and keep an eye out for reed warblers, look out across the lagoons for waders and all kinds of water birds, and trek along the trails where you might catch sight of curlews, redshanks, and wigeons.

    Manorafon Farm Park

    If you’re looking for a family day out in Conwy then Manorafon Farm Park is the place to go.

    Here, you will be treated to sightings of all kinds of animals from Pets’ Corner to the Reptile Hut, not to mention a whole host of farm animals just waiting to meet their latest guests.

    And with plenty of play areas for the kids, it’s a good opportunity to tire the little ones out, too.

    Welsh Mountain Zoo

    Just a short drive from Conwy is the ever-popular Welsh Mountain Zoo, which has been around for more than 60 years and boasts 80 species of animals spread across its 37-acre site.

    Visitors can get up close to everything from monkeys and tigers to bears and crocodiles and just about everything in between.

    Young or old, this beautiful part of Wales has something for everyone.
