    But where to start? The vibrant cathedral city of Lincoln is a fantastic base for a planned bike break. The Lincolnshire Wolds, countryside, and coastline are all on the doorstep, and the city itself is a great place to come back to for rest and refreshment after a tiring day of exploring this simply spectacular part of the world on two wheels.

    There are so many cycle networks and routes in Lincolnshire that it can be hard to know where to begin. The beauty is that you can do as much or as little of each route as you want, depending on your ability and how much time you have.

    The Lindsey Trail

    The Lindsey Trail is a 69-mile cycle route that cuts
    right across the Lincolnshire Wolds and guarantees some truly awe-inspiring views along the way.

    There are a number of planned cycle paths, which vary between 2.5 miles and 46 miles, with the terrain also ranging from level to hilly, so there is something for every fitness level.

    Castle to Coast Cycle Route

    Check out the famous Castle to Coast Cycle Routewhich stretches for an impressive 100 miles from the landmark Lincoln Castle to Chapel St Leonards on the Lincolnshire coast.

    Enjoy spectacular views of the Lincolnshire Wolds while cycling through charming villages such as Bardney, Hemingby, and Alford.

    Water Railway Cycle Route

    A popular cycle route for all to enjoy is the Water Railway Cycle Route from Boston. At 33 miles, it can be tackled in one go if you’re an experienced rider or in bite-sized chunks. This mainly traffic-free, purpose-built trail links Lincoln to Boston and boasts some awe-inspiring fenland views as well as fascinating art installations.

    Easier Cycling Routes in Lincolnshire

    Meredyke & Harby to Lincoln

    A nice, easy, level route runs six miles from Meredyke, with beautiful views of flower-filled meadows and lots of birds and wildlife to look out for.

    The Harby to Lincoln stretch of National Cycle Network route 64 (6.6 miles) is just a little bit longer but still relatively easy. It promises little or no traffic.

    Woodhall Spa

    A nine-mile circular route around Woodhall Spa travels on mainly quiet roads and a disused railway line, so it is suitable for all kinds of riders. Starting at Royal Square Gardens through Woodhall Spa, the route takes you through Kirby on Bain and Roughton and back to Royal Square Gardens again.

    Viking Wolds View

    The Viking Wolds View route is a rewarding ride that takes in fabulous scenery in an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty.

    This 24.5-mile cycle trail starts at Ulceby train station and travels along quiet country lanes through some of the most enchanting countryside.

    Tougher Cycling Routes in Lincolnshire

    Bardney to Fisherton

    If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, then the 24-mile Bardney to Fisherton cycle ride is the one for you. Starting at Bardney Heritage Centre, the route varies between quiet roads and off-road sections, so there is plenty of variety to test your riding skills.
